Corps. Mini Car Unit
Ed Pearson, Secretary
January 14, 2012
On the 2nd and 3rd of December, the Mini Car Unit concluded our 2011 parade schedule by participating in the West Chester, PA Old Fashioned Christmas Parade on Friday evening, and the Holiday Parade in Ship Bottom, NJ on Saturday. This was our first appearance in the West Chester Parade and they appreciated our performance well enough to issue us a special early invitation for the 2012 parade.
Diane and Coach Cunningham, once again this year, hosted a January kick-off party at their home for the Mini Car Unit. A good time was had by all as preliminary plans and ideas for 2012 were loosely discussed around an abundance of good food and beverages.
Our winter activities generally focus on asking President, Red Hieber if there is anything the members can do to help him with winter car maintenance and adjustments. With our growing membership, we anticipate adding two or more mini cars to the fleet in 2012. In the next issue, we hope to debut Vince Etzel’s new car. The good/bad news is that the fleet has grown to the extent that we need a third trailer.
We are looking forward to our traditional first parade of the year by participating in the annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Seaside Heights, NJ. This is one of our favorite events each year and kicks off the Spring schedule. It is a good day to be at the shore and the crowd is always enthusiastic.
The Mini Car Unit is always looking for additional members. You do not have to own a car to be a member. Our goal is to have two to one non-car owners to car owners so we are sure to have enough drivers for all parades plus drivers of the trailers in the parades, since not everyone can make every function. We do have limited car inventory available for purchase, though. Those interested in joining should contact any member of the Unit or the Shrine office to express your interest
